Knight's Steakhouse Downtown: Reviews & Ratings
Took my girlfriend here before a concert at the Michigan Theater across the street. She has food allergies and I had called in advance to see if they would accommodate her and they absolutely did. When we got here we were greeted by a hostess and what I presume was the manager. We had a reservation and the manager asked my girlfriend if she would like the chef to come out and talk to her about her allergies. The chef came out and was very professional and was very reassuring that her food would be prepared safely. We received our soups, and they were superb. We ordered the French onion soup and it was one of the best French onion soups we have ever tasted, it was incredible. Our entrees came out and they did not disappoint. The steaks were cooked perfectly according to our preferences, and my girlfriend's steak was clearly pan seared, which is what the chef said he would do to avoid cross contamination. Our sides were really good too, my girlfriend ordered the mashed potatoes and I ordered the mushroom risotto. We saw the chef bringing out a carryout and he asked us how our food was. We gave him our compliments and I gave him a tip, for the quality of the food and his adherence to food safety. Our server came back and informed us that the chef was treating us to a free dessert. I planned on ordering dessert anyways so we ordered the Knight and Day Pie, and that was also incredible and delicious. The only thing I didn't like was that our server wasn't very attentive, and only refilled our drinks once, despite the fact that seating wasn't even half full. But other than that our server was kind and took our orders correctly. Knight's is our new go-to spot whenever we are in Ann Arbor, and we are excited for when we can come back! My compliments to Chef Trevor!
Our first introduction to Knights Steakhouse was on a random weeknight and we just had drinks at the bar. We were welcomed by the bartender and enjoyed the sports bar/steakhouse vibe, drinks were great. Upon our second visit for a weeknight dinner, we felt just as welcome even without a reservation. Once seated, we were greeted by our waiter who got our drink orders in and got us set up with menus. Some rolls were set out with our salad and they were very tasty, could have used a tad more butter. We normally like a mix of steak and seafood so we ordered the halibut with honey glaze, rice pilaf, and asparagus as well as the 6oz filet medium with veggies, risotto and an additional side of mashed potato. I loved the honey glaze on the halibut and the rice pilaf was a great starch to go with it. The steak was cooked to temp and had a fabulous crust, which I always appreciate. Asparagus was alright but fat, so don’t be surprised if you get 3 or 4 big pieces. Didn’t love the veggies that came with my steak as much, they were fresh but pretty plain. Mashed potatoes were great with the steak, a straight up scoop of potato, nothing else needed. I wouldn’t come here expecting eccentric flavors, food trends, or white tablecloth attitudes. It’s a straight up American sport steak joint for dates, dudes, dads, and families visiting their college kids. We were very pleased with the food and impressed with our waiter who was attentive but not attached and agreeable but not pushy - we felt like we were in good hands. Our orders were correct and the food came out hot. I do think they could improve on presentation or zest up their vegetable game. The bartender makes a mean last word, so they made an instant fan of me from the start.
My wife and I had our valentines dinner here and it was fantastic. The staff at the entrance were exceedingly helpful and friendly. Our server Michael was knowledgeable, personable and checked on us frequently. We split the Delmontico for two, and while we knew there was no way we’d eat a 27oz ribeye, the deal was too good to pass up. A few oysters to start (you can choose your number, which was great)…they were very fresh. A cup of their mushroom bisque…wow…this was probably the best I’ve ever had. The wait for the steak was minimal. Sides were asparagus, fresh vegetables, and potatoes au gratin. The steak was seasoned perfectly…oh man I can still taste it! And for such a large cut of meat it was cooked spot-on medium rare. This was just an excellent dinner. Great job!
The bar staff was great and they were very friendly. Ordered the sirloin and it was perfect! Ordered it per the menu recommendations and added the melted blue cheese on top.
Such a cute place to eat in Ann Arbor! It seems great for families or a fancy meal. We got the Caesar salad, Canadian bacon soup, NY strip, and the southern burger. They were all really good, especially the soup and the steak! I will say I wasn’t as big a fan of the veggies that came with the steak, it felt a little plain and the home made chips were a bit too hard for my taste but overall we have such a great experience! The meat was cooked to perfection and the service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was great as well!
